NYS Testing
New York State (NYS) Testing
Each year, students in Grades 3–5 participate in New York State assessments. These exams measure student learning in English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, and English as a New Language (NYSESLAT).
All New York State assessments at P.S. 54 are computer-based. While New York State provides a general testing window, each school sets its own testing schedule within that window. The dates below reflect P.S. 54’s testing schedule.
NYS English Language Arts (ELA)
- Grades 4 and 5: April 14–15, 2026
- Grade 3: April 16–17, 2026
NYS Mathematics
- Grades 4 and 5: April 28–29, 2026
- Grade 3: April 30–May 1, 2026
NYS Science (Grade 5 Only)
- Grade 5 ONLY: May 13, 2026
Important Information for Families
- All exams are computer-based
- Testing dates may be different for each school
- Students receive testing accommodations listed in their IEPs or 504 Plans
- Make-up testing will be scheduled when needed

NYSESLAT Exam
The NYSESLAT is given each year to students who are learning English. It measures skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
At P.S. 54, the NYSESLAT is given during the New York State testing window. Testing dates may be different for each student.

- April 6–May 22, 2026
NYSESLAT Reading, Writing, and Listening
- May 4–May 22, 2026
